How do Herbologia products achieve such incredible results within a short period of time? We’ve developed entirely new formulas that include the next generation of emulsifiers and surfactants — the main building blocks of skincare products. It took us a decade to refine the formulations to their present, most effective, versions. Moreover, we tested hundreds of actives and picked only 100% non-toxic and the most potent of them for skin health, rejuvenation, skin smoothing and tone, and we added them at maximum concentrations. The herbal extracts are produced in house from pharmaceutical grade standardized extracts, where only minute quantities are needed to achieve high concentrations of specific antioxidants and vitamins.
LIQUID CRYSTALS IN A BOTTLE
Skin barrier repair is the first step towards peak health and rejuvenation. Our creams and lotions are uniquely formulated to mimic the skin barrier to restore its original architecture with a so-called liquid crystal emulsification. As a result, our products are exceptionally light and absorbent, skin friendly, more hydrating, and more effective because they penetrate into deeper layers of the skin.
Skin’s lipid barrier is organized in a liquid crystal matrix, where layers of water and lipids protect the skin from dryness, infection, and pollution. Disrupted lipid barrier layer, as shown on the right-hand picture, results in irritation, itchiness, problem skin, and dryness. As we age, our natural skin barrier function diminishes. Herbologia creams and lotions have the same lamellar structure as the skin’s barrier. They seamlessly integrate into the epidermis, deeply nurturing and rebuilding this vital skin’s structure.
NON-IONIC CLEANSING SYSTEMS
Herbologia shampoos, washes, and cleansers are all non-ionic, which means they are chemically neutral. Regular shampoos and cleansers are anionic (negatively charged) in nature. They are able to dissolve and strip away skin acid mantle, deactivate natural enzymes, and disrupt the healthy function of skin’s biomembranes. The acid mantle covers the very top of the skin and serves as a shield against germs and pollution. Anionic surfactants — such as sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate, coco betaine, and especially all soaps — therefore, dehydrate and irritate the skin, which sometimes leads to overcompensation by producing more sebum, making the skin more problematic and oily.
Herbologia is the first brand to ever develop fully non-ionic cleansing system that we use in our cleansing products such as shampoos, face cleansers, and washes. They are neutral, and therefore they cleanse and protect the skin’s acid mantle without disrupting its delicate balance. Moreover, most of our cleansing products contain acidic ingredients such as Apple Cider Vinegar or Aloe Vera and are therefore even more skin friendly. Herbologia shampoos, washes, and cleansers will not dry your skin and hair, but gently wash and moisturize. Non-ionic surfactants are less toxic than anionic surfactants by orders of magnitude to marine and wild life.
LIPID BARRIER COMPLEX
Skin’s lipid barrier consists of four vital elements: fatty acids, squalane, ceramides, and cholesterol. They provide moisturization, protection, shielding from the environment, and normal cell function. When they get out of balance, the skin suffers from moisture loss, overacting immune response, flakiness, excessive sebum production, and irritation.

HIGH CONCENTRATION OF ACTIVES
A crucial key to effectiveness of skincare products is the dosage of active substances. Herbologia discovered a number of ingredients such as peptides, vitamins, antioxidants, essential oils, botanicals, lipids, specialty plant oils, and other nutrients that can rejuvenate and beautify the skin. Their effects on the skin largely depend on how much of the actives are included in the formulas. Most other brands only include minute amounts often listed at the very end of the ingredients list. Herbologia, on the other hand, uses the maximum concentration recommended in scientific studies and by suppliers.
A particular type of active, our herbal extracts, deserve a special mention. We purchase the highest quality pharmaceutical grade crude botanical extracts from around the world and prepare cosmetics-ready liquid concentrates in our lab. These extracts contain the highest amounts of antioxidants, such as resveratrol, oleuropein, rutin, ferulic acid, pycnogenol, EGCG, polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, and other newly discovered and super effective antioxidants.
